Food Storage

So, Mom and I have been working on our food storage. We both have a good selection of stuff in our own personal "store." She is a little more diligent about it and reminds me to keep going. So, she was searching on the Internet today and found a site that tells you how much storage you need for a years worth of food for your family. You plug in the number of members and, walla. When you look at the numbers, it is pretty daunting. She suggested that I work on building those areas that I am low on for a 3 month supply, which is a lot more do-able. I went downstairs (I have one of those old, scary storage rooms that is dark and cold and perfect for storing food!) and I have about 3 times the amount of spaghetti that I need. That's fine with the boys...they will get pretty sick of spaghetti, though, when food is too expensive! Anyway, the site for the calculator is www.thefoodguys.com

my food storage contains rice, hairspray, and cold cereal: All very important but needless to say I have work to do!!!
I haven't worried much about it but with the economy in the shape it is in I feel strongly about it now!

Thanks for the link!
Now I just need to get started!

Don't get overwhelmed by the numbers. Buy stuff that your family already eats instead of buckets of wheat but you don't have a grinder. Set the number on the planner page for one month and start looking for sales. I know that I have totally changed the way I shop over this past year. I look for things I usually buy and then buy multiples of them. Tomorrow I am going to focus on medicines and the like. Daedre, I'm so glad you've got your priorities straight. A girl absolutely can not be without hairspray!!!

I realized that my storage is without chapstick. If I don't have hair product, then I will stay home. However, if I don't have chapstick, then I will go insane!
